Purpose of the role

The Software System Analyst is a critical role for our organisation, with responsibility for maintaining and improving software systems by preparing new solutions for future requirements of the organisation and its clients.

You will be responsible for

  • Communication and coordination between the business units, development and test teams
  • Define requirements for a business and customer/user perspective, considering technical implementation details
  • Business process design: create flow diagrams in order to ensure all points are covered in requirement process flows
  • Ability to generate mock-ups in case a requirement needs a user interaction
  • Prepare requirement documents, including mock-ups, flow charts, functional and non-functional requirements and impact to as-is system
  • Requirements gathering, definition, business planning, data analysis, process analysis, business and functional requirements analysis, system design and testing implementation
  • Analysis of software requirements by defining system problems; designing and testing standards and solutions
  • Define application problems by conferring with clients; evaluating procedures and processes
  • Develop solutions by preparing and evaluating alternative workflow solutions
  • Control solutions by establishing specifications and coordinating production with programmers
  • Validate results by testing programs
  • Ensure operation by training client personnel and providing support
  • Provide reference by writing documentation
  • Accomplish information systems’ and the organisation’s mission by completing related results as needed

You will have

  • Knowledge in software architecture, design, documentation, testing and maintenance
  • Understanding of Restful services
  • Experience with:
    • Agile software development using JIRA
    • Solution documentation including flow diagrams and/or screen/page design flows
    • Java, GUI or Web front-end development, SQL, Postgres or equivalent database tools
  • Good understanding of the Incident Response life cycle, working independently to investigate and effectively respond to software incidents
  • Ability in analytical thinking, problem solving and result oriented thinking
  • Knowledge in multiple OS platforms with strong emphasis on Linux (CentOS, Red Hat, Ubuntu), Mac OS X, and Windows systems a plus

Person specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics or engineering
  • Experience in software development, testing or project management
  • Previous work in research environments that rely extensively on Open Source solutions
  • Fluency in English
